Bjorn Bjorholm @ Yama Bonsai Studio Part 2

Na een geweldige workshop op zaterdag was het tijd om vroeg in de veren te gaan.
Want zondag rond 9.30 h zat de studio al weer vol met leergierige Bonsai enthousiasten!

Bjorn begon eerst met een rondje te maken om de bomen te bespreken zodat iedereen aan de slag.
Er werd stevig gewerkt door iedereen waarna Ruben chef-kok bij Restaurant Resy's ons kwam verrassen met zijn lekkere befaamde spareribs.
Nadat iedereen zijn buikje rond gegeten had kon iedereen er weer stevig tegenaan om hun boom tegen de eind van de dag onder begeleiding van Bjorn af te werken.


After a great workshop on Saturday it was time to go to bed early.
Cause Sunday around 9.30h the studio was full with eager Bonsai enthusiasts.

Bjorn first started to make his round to discuss the trees so everyone could get to work.
People worked firmly where after Ruben chef of Restaurant Resy's surprised us with his famous delicious Spareribs.
After everyone had eaten his belly full we could firmly go against it again to finish the trees at the end of the day with the guidance of Bjorn!

Bjorn Bjorholm @ Yama Bonsai Studio Part 1

Het begon vrijdag toen ik Bjorn rond de middag moest ophalen bij de luchthaven.
Na wat te eten hadden we een 2 uur durende rit voor de boeg richting Den Haag.
Hier moest Bjorn een foto demonstratie geven voor Bonsai Focus.
Dit was op een mooie taxus die gesponsord was door Bonsai Plaza.

It started Friday when I had to pick up Bjorn at the airport around noon.
After we had some lunch it was time for a 2 hour drive to The Hague.
Here Bjorn had to give a picture demonstration for Bonsai Focus.
This was on a beautiful Taxus sponsored by Bonsai Plaza.

Zaterdag 19 maart begon de workshop omstreeks 9.30.

Iedereen werd verwelkomt met een kop koffie waarna Bjorn vol goede moed er begon in te vliegen.

Een voor een begon Bjorn ieder zijn boom te bespreken, alles werd zeer duidelijk en met een verklaring uitgelegd.

 

Saturday 19th of march the workshop started at 9.30.

Everyone was welcomed with a cup of coffee, whereafter Bjorn full of courage started to work.

One by one Bjorn started to discuss everyone's tree, everything was explained very clear.

ThrowBack & reblogged of a 800 year old tohoku Juniper

Laatst zag ik op de blog van  William N. Valavanis een oude bekende terug, met de historie van deze boom.
Het leek mij interessant om deze Throwback en reblog met jullie te delen.

Last time when i came on the blog of William N. Valavanis i saw an old acquaintance back, with some historic details of this three.
It seemed interesting to share this Throwback and reblog with you all.

1968

 

Deze foto van de Tohoku Juniperus chinensis sargentii werd genomen in 1968 uit een oude Bonsai & Suiseki tentoonstellings catalogus ter ere van Shigeru Yoshida die een voormalige premier en eerste president van de Nippon Bonsai Association was.

Hij had een uitstekende Bonsai collective die verzorgt werd bij een van de leraren waar William N. Valavanis bij in de leer was, Kyuzo Murata, Kyuka-en Bonsai Garden in Omiya.

 

 

This photo of the Tohoku Sargent juniper was taken in 1968 from an old bonsai & Suiseki exhibition catalog honoring Shigeru Yoshida who was a former Prime Minister and first president of the Nippon Bonsai Association. He had an excellent bonsai collection which was cared for by one of the teachers were William N. Valavanis apprenticed with, Kyuzo Murata, Kyuka-en Bonsai Garden in Omiya

 

 

2010

Deze foto van de Tohoku Juniperus chinensis sargentii Bonsai was genomen in 2010 wanneer Seiji Morimae de boom te koop aanbood in de S-Cube Wabi catalogus No.17.

De vraagprijs in die tijd was ¥10,000,000 die  net onder een $100,000 word geschat.

 

This photo of the Tohoku Sargent juniper bonsai was taken in 2010 when Seiji Morimae offered it for sale in his S-Cube WABI catalog No. 17. The asking price at that time was ¥10,000,000 which is approximately just under $100,000.

2011

Hier is de 800 jaar oude Juniperus in de tuin van Shunka-en waar Fukita-san en ik aan mochten werken eind 2011.

We begonnen met het verwijderen van het oude loof, klaar maken van de raffia en deze om de takken die zwaar gebogen moesten worden te buigen , bedraden en daarna te vormen.

De voorzijde was veranderd om een beter spel tussen levenslijn en dood hout te creëren.

 

Here is the 800 year old Juniper in the garden of Shunka-en where Fukita-san and I could work on it at the end of 2011.

We started removing the old foliage, preparing the raffia and wrap these around the branches that had to be bend heavily, wire it and shape it.

The front of this tree was changed to create a better play against the life vein and deadwood.

2016

Hier de Juniperus hoe William N. Valavanis de boom tegen kwam bij Kunio Kobayashi's Shunka-en Bonsai garden in Tokyo.
Deze soort die uit het Noorden van de Tokohu region komen hebben grof loof en daardoor beter geschikt voor Bonsai in de grotere maat.
Kleinere juniperus chinensis sargentii bomen worden vaak ge-ent met Juniperus chinensis itoigawa die fijner van textuur en helderder groen zijn.
De Itoigawa variateit is zeer gewaardeerd voor Bonsai training en verschillende Juniperus chinensis sargentii in Japan zijn volledig herwerkt, alle takken zijn ge-ent op oude en oud lijkende stammen.

 

Here the Juniper when William N. Valavanis saw the tree at Kunio Kobayashi's Shunka-en Bonsai garden in tokyo.
This specie is from the Northern Tokohu region were they have coarse foliage and therefor suited for Bonsai in the larger size.
Litlle Sargent juniper trees often get reworked and grafted with itoigawa because the foliage have finer texture and are brighter green.
The itoigawa variety is highly prized for Bonsai training and several Sargent junipers in japan are fully reworked, all branches are grafted on old and old resembling trunks.
