Acer Burgerianum from a student

Ongeveer rond Juni had Kevin deze boom aangekocht bij Yama Bonsai Studio.
Een fat trunk Acer burgerianum  met veel plus punten zoals zijn tapse stam, mooie nebari en weinig wonden(waarvan de meeste genezen zijn en gespierde bulten op de stam zijn geworden, deze geven de boom meer karakter).

Het eerste minpunt dat zichtbaar was bij aankoop was dat de eerste en belangrijkste tak langs achter kwam waardoor je geen aanzet kan zien.
Ook leek het optisch dat de achtertak rechts op dezelfde hoogte stond.

The first flaw that was visible with purchase was the first branch, this one came from the back, So you couldn't see the start of the branch.
Also it looked like the first branch at the back came from the same height as the first branch

Het tweede minpunt was echter pas zichtbaar na het vallen van het loof, de secundaire en tertiaire vertakking.
Hier moest her en der geselecteerd worden uit takken wat de beweging ten goede kwam, kruisende takken en verdikkingen moesten verdwijnen, er werd terug gesnoeid tot op korte internodiën.
Nadat we dit deden kwamen we tot dit resultaat.

The second flaw was visible after the leafs dropped, the secondary and tertiary branching.
Here and there some branches had to be cut to improve the movement, crossing branches and bulges were removed, also we cut back to short internodes.
After we did that we came to this result.

Mooi silhouet, maar nog veel werk de komende jaren aan de fijne vertakking.
Ook zitten we nog met de eerste tak die langs achter komt kijken.
Hoe lossen we dit op?

Beautiful silhouette, but still a lot of work the next coming years on the fine branching.
Also is there still the problem of the first branch coming from the back.
How do we solve this problem?


Nu zijn er 2 opties en gaf ik mijn student wat huiswerk om over na te denken mee.

Optie 1: we behouden de voorzijde.
Verwijderen de eerste tak en enten een nieuwe eerste tak op een betere plaats, die we laten uitgroeien tot de gewenste dikte om daarna de vertakking te verbeteren.

Now there are 2 options and i gave my student some homework to think about.

Option 1: We keep the front.
Remove the first branch and graft a new one on a better spot, let it grow till it reaches the thickness we want and work on the branching after.

Optie2: We gebruiken de rechter zijde als nieuwe voorkant, deze heeft meer beweging , tapsheid en een mooie eerste tak.
Verwijderen de volgende kruisende tak en top (om hierna een nieuwe te laten uitgroeien met de flow mee naar rechts) (aangegeven door rode streep)
Enten wortels bij die missen aan de rechterzijde en op enkele plaatsen takken waar we deze missen (aangegeven met rode stippen)

Option2: we use the right side as the new front, this has more movement, taper and a beautiful placed first branch.
We remove the following crossing branch and apex( to grow a new one that follows the flow to the right)( as seen on the red stripes)
Graft roots that it needs on the right and branches on some important places ( as seen were the red dots are)

 

Wanneer hij hier over nagedacht heeft, kunnen we bespreken wat te doen en kan hij deze boom bedraden.Om daarna over te gaan op bladsnoei rond juni om fijne vertakking op te bouwen, ik weet voor welke optie ik zou kiezen, voor welke jij?...word vervolgd!
